Using Lehigh’s Specialized Databases
Lehigh offers two databases that are especially recommended for finding primary source material:
1. WorldCat - a catalog of more than 10,000 libraries, including Lehigh University
Many libraries catalog their archival materials and this entry appears in the WorldCat database. You can conduct a search on a topic or person and limit the search to archival materials. World Cat will tell you what library owns the collection.Click here to view a short video on how to use WorldCat
2. National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections - a free database that includes archival and manuscript collections in libraries, museums, state archives, and historical societies in North America and worldwide (1986 to the present)
There are two parts to this database. Conduct your search in both the RLG Union Catalog and the OCLC Catalog components.Click here to watch a short video about how to search NUCMC's RLG Catalog.
Prior to the existence of this online database version of NUCMC, a printed edition was published each year from 1959 to 1985. Lehigh owns this reference work. You may want to consult it should the online searches fail to yield the results you need. National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections: 1959-1985 and indexes can be found in Lehigh Libraries with call number 016.091 N277 REFERENCE.
