Mr. Charles began working as a Research Scientist for the Energy Research Center in 2011 after receiving his M.S. in mechanical engineering from Lehigh University. For the two years prior to this, he worked as a graduate research assistant at the Center. Joshua has spent considerable time researching slagging and fouling in pulverized coal boilers as well as emissions of mercury and HCl. He has developed software tools for predicting a coal plant’s performance and has helped with the design and installation of a coal flow balancing system. However, Joshua primarily specializes in systems modeling of coal plants and is currently involved in modeling for a CO2 capture project funded by DOE.
