The complex and interrelated challenges of increased energy demand and its impact upon generation, transmission, storage -- in the U.S. and around the world -- have never been more crucial to society's well-being.

Tomorrow's energy landscape will involve contributions from a variety of sources, such as renewable and nuclear energy. Yet fossil fuels will continue to play an important role as well; for example, forecasters believe coal will capture some 40% of the power supply market for the foreseeable future, a reflection of its role as an abundant low-cost source of fuel, especially for U.S. power plants. Scientific research and technological development play an important role in addressing those challenges as efficiently and safely as possible.

To support rapid advancement and integration within this evolving landscape, Lehigh University's Energy Research Center (ERC) pursues fundamental and applied research, technological development, and demonstration projects in collaboration with a broad set of government, industry, and academic partners. The Center also serves as a liaison for energy-related research, education, and collaboration.
