PRO03: Dynamic Identification of Heat Exchanger
The purpose of this experiment is to become familiar with and test a variety of classical experimen- tal identification techniques for determining the dynamics of a process or a device. Step testing, relay-feedback testing and direct sine-wave testing are applied to an open-loop heat exchanger process. Transfer functions and frequency response plots are generated from experimental results. A PI controller is designed, and its closed-loop performance is evaluated experimentally. The process is a tube-in-shell heat exchanger. Water from the pumping station is split into two streams. The hot-water stream is heated in an electric tankless heater and flows through the tube side. The cold water flows counter-currently on the shell side.
