| Every child is blessed with special talents and gifts that need to be supported and encouraged by parents, teachers, and even fellow classmates. It is important to identify children's abilities in order to develop them because they are indicative of their future success. As a little girl, I never felt limited by my sex and was convinced that playing sports was one of my finest features. While my small private grammar school was not comfortable with mixed gender recreation and preferred girls to stay out of the boys' games, I never understood the danger of playing sports. Playing with the boys at recess would somehow always turn into serious competition, sparked perhaps by an underlying belief in equality. |
