  • Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School

Athletics has always been an important part of my life beginning on the playground in elementary school and continuing on to the state championship playing fields. Playing soccer, basketball, and softball for the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) filled many afternoons and weekends with fun and excitement. Competing with friends and encouraged by parents and school were fundamental to my desire to pursue athletics at the high school level. Even my summers were filled with competition at the local swimming club for the Montgomery County Swim League. I could never get enough of athletic competition the whole year through. With the support and dedication of both my coaches and parents, I was a spirited athlete who found success on the teams I played with. Involvement in sports at a young age helped me develop a sense of teamwork as well as a work ethic that taught me to be the best I could be.

Choosing Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (B-CC) was not a difficult decision for me despite many friends' choices to attend private high schools. B-CC is the local public high school where four of my older siblings had gone before me so I had much exposure to it. The school's reputation was extraordinary. Built in 1926, the school has maintained a diverse student population dedicated to academic excellence. The athletic department has always been an integral part of the school's character and the girl's field hockey team was noted for its championship seasons. The team had its share of stellar players who were constantly receiving local accolade. Before I even stepped foot inside the school, I had made up my mind to play field hockey. I joined a local junior field hockey team and attended camp in August prior to tryouts. The next four years were filled with exciting matches and close championships. Without the support of the school and parents the experience would not have been as memorable and inspiring.
