Why be a librarian in the 21st century with all the detractors?

Librarians are outdated!

Librarians are all old cat ladies that have no idea how to use computers!

False: I like cats but I also happen to be a guy who builds computers in his spare time.

Books are being replaced by electronic resources!

Books are expensive and the Internet has made everything available for free/cheap!

False: Books are indeed expensive but so are digital library products. Not everything is online and not everyone can access the Internet.

We can't afford libraries anymore!

The economy has made libraries financially unsustainable and these librarians don't even generate any tax income!

False: Libraries are like universal health care. It's not going to be profitable but the tangible benefits are numerous.
