NEWSFLASH!

POETS ON STRIKE!

"Nobody reads poetry anymore!" says one poet.

"Students don't care about us!" complains another.

Poets around the world have stopped writing in protest.  They're upset that nobody seems to care about poetry, especially learning about it!  As one of the few poetry experts left on the planet, your job is to create poetry so that we keep up with the demand for new poetry.  You also must learn and write about a poet, then write a convincing letter to him or her that we'll really mail!

Extra Information:

In class, we've learned much about poetry.  Poetry is an art form that has been enjoyed for thousands of years.  We have read many different poems in class, and you have read poems on your own, too! Through our reading, we've learned that poems can have many different forms, be written in many different styles and about many different topics.  Poems can be funny, serious, sad, and everything in between!

Our class has become familiar with the writing process through many different projects--writing stories, letters and even newspaper articles.  After this WebQuest, we'll add poetry to that list!

Re-read our classroom's favorite poem for inspiration, then begin to explore the world of poetry on your own!
