All books receive a spine label with the call number for the book. Again, it is important to ensure the label matches the call number of the book in hand. Check the hand written number in the back of the book. See the Call Number tab on more information on how to match call numbers.
Sometimes the spine label will not fully fit on the spine. If the entire call number will not be visible on the spine, place it in the bottom left corner of the book's cover instead.
If the book has an "R" as the first line of the call number it is a reference book. In addition to the call label, you will need to place a "REF" label as well. Place it directly above the call label - either on the spine, or on the front cover if the book is too thin.
Sometimes the material of the book may be too rough for a label to stick well. If it seems loose, put a clear label holder over the label to ensure it will stay.
