The Iacocca Program In Business and Industry

The Iacocca Program In Business and Industry Leadership

The market need for customized executive education is growing in part because of the transition to agile competitors and virtual enterprise strategies. The Iacocca Institute at Lehigh University is uniquely positioned to respond to this need with a world class executive education program which can be customized to meet the needs of various business and industry leaders. This is because of the Institute's experience with industry in defining and understanding the transition to agile competition and virtual organizations, because of Lee Iacocca's interest and support and because Lehigh has an excellent reputation for partnering with industry and delivering world class results.

The Iacocca Program in Business and Industry Leadership will be offered through a virtual organization in partnership with the program's customers. The virtual organization will be staffed with world class professionals from around the nation and the world and use Lehigh's expertise as a facilitator and mentor to make it work.

A successful program at Ulster University will be adapted to meet our needs. This program overcomes the objections many have to executive education programs in that it will not require a big block of time, be plain vanilla, or mix participants with different rank or levels.

The Iacocca Program in Business and Industry Leadership will consist of a series of seven two or three day modules and one or two special experiences spread over a 12 month period. The content of the modules will be crafted by a customizing board for each group of twenty executives with similar interests. The customizing board made up of senior executives in potential customers firms, has the dual role of designing a custom curricula and populating the first class of twenty enrollees.

Parlor meetings to explain, define and refine these ideas with business executives are planned for the late spring of 1995. Executives interested in this concept are encouraged to contact Roger N. Nagel, Deputy Director of the Iacocca Institute, at (610) 758-4086, by fax at (610) 758-6550, or by email. We anticipate that it will take six to nine months to design and populate the first class. A seed fund will also be needed to cover expenses for starting and piloting the program.

The scope of the Iacocca Program in Business and Industry Leadership will be broadened to meet the need of other executives and technical professionals as it evolves into a life long continuous education program. These efforts will be funded by residuals from the first program for leaders in business and industry.
