 The establishment of The Peter Thompson International Investment Portfolio was made possible by a gift to the College of Business and Economics in honor of alumnus Peter Thompson, Class of 1950, the former director of exporting for Campbell Soup Company. The primary purpose of the portfolio is to provide a framework within which undergraduates can invest and manage the portfolio, which started with an initial value of $10,000 in 1994. The management of the portfolio is imbedded into two courses, Portfolio Management Practicum (Fin 374) and Advanced Topics - Investments (Fin 377). Managers are identified by the Finance Faculty and the final selection is done by the advisor, Professor Vasconcellos in the fall of each school term.

The Courses are designed to give students an opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge and understanding of the increasingly interconnected global economy that will be of value to them in securing their first jobs and throughout their careers and lives. Emphasis is placed on researching the economics of markets and evaluating market sectors in which to invest.

The Thompson Portfolio benefits Lehigh students in several ways. It enhances the international and experiential-learning dimensions of the curriculum and adds to the global dimension of the CBE’s visiting experts program by generating a forum for accomplished business practitioners to the University.
