The Sabretooth Theory
One question about Blink which has never been clearly resolved is her
relationship with Sabretooth. This document is my attempt to list the
arguements any my take on them. In other words, this is the first ever
Blink Homepage editorial. Enjoy!
- The AoA relationship
- Blink and Mister Creed did indeed share a father-daughter type
relationship. However, it is specifically stated that Blink was living
with a real family which did not include Sabretooth prior to her
internment in Abyss' death camp. Blink's reactions towards Mr. Creed are
easily justifiable as he rescued her from that camp where she had already
lost her parents and brother.
- The Real World Relationship
- Blink and Sabretooth do not recognize each other when they meet at the
end of the Phalanx Covenant. Indeed, Clarice is scared by the
brutality of Sabretooth as he shreds the Phalanx Harvest. However, this
does not rule out the possibility that neither of them knows, or that
Creed has decided not to tell her. Indeed, Creed had escaped and was
totally free, so the knowledge that Clarice was captured might have been
the only reason that he came back.
- The Canadian Connection
- 'Tooth spent a good amount of time in Canada. If the theory that
Blink is Canadian is true (see my Blink
Profile: The Phalanx Covenant for details), it would be an interesting
coincidence.
- The Genetic Link?
- Blink was revealed to have had lavender skin from birth in What If 75. Nightcrawler, who can also
teleport, also had his distinctive coloration from birth. Nightcrawler's
mother was Mystique, who has had relations with Sabretooth. Mystique may
well have placed her child with foster parents, explaining the family
Blink lost in the AoA.
Ultimately, no clear information has been given either way. However,
given that so many points in favor of this theory are based on
speculation, I find it hard to believe. I guess we'll find out for sure
when Blink returns.
