Blink FAQ
Updated: August 19th, 1999
(Questions 5 and 6)
Well, I guess calling this an FAQ is a bit misleading since questions
don't really have to be asked all that frequently to be included. In
fact, if you have a good question about Blink (I.E. one which isn't
already answered on this page), email it to me at
c010@lehigh.edu. If the answer is
interesting, I'll post it!
No purchase necessary. Open to employees of Lavender Darts (me,
myself and I). Allow whatever my current email turnaround time is for
delivery. Void where prohibited by law.
- Question 1: Blink is able to "displace" objects. Does this mean
that she can teleport objects from existence?
- Answer: We never got that much of an in-depth explanation of her
powers, primarily because of how short a time she was around. The
implication is that anything she displaces ends up SOMEWHERE, though
where and in how many pieces is another question. (This would also obey
the laws of physics, though that is only a minor concern in comics.) Some
MU teleporters, like Nightcrawler and Magik, teleport by moving in and out
of another dimension. If Blink did this too, she might be able to
teleport stuff there and LEAVE it there, thus making it out of our
existence for most practical purposes.

Question 2: How different was the development of the real Blink's powers
from that of AoA Blink? Did the AoA Blink have any other mutant powers
or abilities the Real-time Blink was not aware of?
-
Answer: Real-time Blink was never formally trained in the use of her
powers. As far as we are aware, she used them once before her first
appearance, and woke up in a pool of blood. In the 616, she disrupted the
Phalanx several times, apparently stunning it and inflicting great pain.
She also lopped out a chunk of the hull of the ship she was on, allowing
Gen X to escape the Blink Wave when she took out the whole ship.
AoA Blink was formally trained by the AoA X-Men, and thus had a wide
array of power stunts she never used in the 616. The most apparent was
the creation of teleportals for transportation. She was able to make
these portals under battle conditions if necessary, with an effective
range from the Earth all the way to the Moon. She could also charge the
darts she carried, causing them to displace anything they hit. (She used
this both to break stuff by teleporting chunks out of it, and to teleport
people.) Blink also showed that she could teleport multiple targets to
multiple locations (she opened three small portals for Gambit's cards in
Omega and sent Scott to a separate location from the X-Men's base in
Tales).
-
Question 3: Would it have been possible for Blink to survive the AoA?
-
Answer: It would have been very easy for Blink to escape the bombs at
the end of X-Men: Omega, and to save the rest of the X-Men to boot. Given
the example of Tales from the AoA #1, she could have teleported them all
the way to the Blue Area of the Moon as the bombs were exploding around
her if she so chose. As far as how might she cross over to the 616? There
was that chunk of M'Kraan crystal present during Omega which the Fugatives
from the AoA (Dark Beast, Holocaust, Sugar Man, and of course the X-Man
Nate Grey) to come into the real world...
-
Question 4: You said that Blink, even though she is presumably dead,
really just "displaced" herself and the Phalanx. Could it be a
possibility that she had sent herself to some different dimension along
with Harvest?
-
Answer: That's the scary part. While Blink did show the ability to
teleport stuff to multiple locations in the AoA (see Question 2), I doubt
she had that much control in the 616, considering that she didn't WANT to
go, and was reaching for Banshee's hand as she disappeared. Thus, wherever
she wound up, Harvest probably landed there with her...
- Question 5: Is Sabretooth Blink's Father?
- I don't really believe so, but there is some evidence to consider.
First off, AoA Blink and Creed do have a father-daughter type
relationship. However, it is stated that the 'Tooth rescued her after her
parents died, which explains the relationship and also states that she was
at least raised by someone else. In the real world, Clarice shows no
signs of knowing Victor, and is in fact horrified at the brutality with
which he strikes. However, this does not definitively rule him out as her
biological father since she might not KNOW about it. Creed being her
father might explain why he came to her rescue, after having escaped X-Men
custody two issues earlier, ASSUMING he knows himself.
The other link is in terms of heritage. Clarice has purple skin and
teleports. Nightcrawler has purple skin and teleports. Nightcrawler's
mom is none other than... MYSTIQUE. Mystique IS a former lover of
Creed's, and she has placed her children in foster care before, explaining
the other family. So, in short, I can't DISPROVE this theory. It doesn't
seem likely, but you never know....
- Question 6: Is the X-Factor villian named Fatale actually Blink?
- Purple, and teleports. Could work. Fatale's shape-shifting was
established to have been via an image inducer. So far so good. Fatale
was under the command of the Dark Beast. Even better. The evil McCoy
would have known that Clarice was going to be a powerful mutant, thanks to
his time in the AoA. At the same time, she isn't very high profile, and
thus he might have been able to capture her without anyone knowing. Also,
while the last few issues of X-Factor were a bit of a blur, I do recall
Havok blasting Fatale, and I'm not sure whether or not she had been
cloned, so the point may be moot. In any event, there's no conclusive
evidence.
That's all for now!
