Shoko Kasumi
I have been working in Lehigh University since the
spring of 1996. I taught Japanese 011 and 012 in the past but
now I’m responsible for teaching Japanese 141 and 142 this year.
I taught for one year at Havarford University
prior to coming to Lehigh. I also have
been teaching Japanese at the Japanese Weekend School in Philadelphia since
1993.
I was born in Nagoya and I
have three siblings. I majored in Socioeconomics at Tokyo Woman's
Christian University, and also obtained middle school and high school teaching
certificates.
After I gave birth to
three sons, we moved to Australia then to Allentown PA. I was stay-home
mother, and experienced many cultural differences while raising my three
sons here. I became a Japanese instructor nine years ago, and have
attended Princeton pedagogy workshop. I have studied at Columbia
University's masters program about Japanese pedagogy. I have always
intended to teach Japanese, and through that I thought I could introduce
Japan. But now Japan is the "ANIME" age. Young students constantly
needs to be touched by "alive"(up to date) Japanese. I want to aim
at a well balanced education.
