Medicines and Other Health Professions Programs
Schools of medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry, and veterinary medicine stress the importance of a strong liberal arts education as well as prescribed studies in the sciences. Although most pre-health students will choose a major in a pure or applied science, as long as candidates have the essential courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, they may major in any of the three undergraduate’s colleges.
A health professions advisory committee, which includes a pre-professional advisor and faculty members from the sciences, provide career and academic counseling and work closely with students from freshman orientation through the entire process of applying to professional schools. Students are urged to consult with the pre-professional adviser in Career Services as early as possible in their academic career. Students interested in other allied health fields may also obtain information to aid them in planning their course with their academic advisers.
