The GIF I made here is supposed to be a bit abstract. The QR code represents technological progress in the sense that the user should try to scan it (if they can) and the quickness by which it flashes past is representing how fast information can be acquired (or missed). A text header for the GIF would ask the user "Are libraries still relevant?" The skull with the books fills the reader with a little sense of forboding. The standard library symbol with a book then flashes to the symbol of a wifi hotspot in a library. Change happens. But is it making libraries irrelevant?
This is a collage I made to represent the stereotypes of librarians that exist in the minds of many people. Even in Hollywood the "pretty librarian" is always a woman, rarely a man and is usually a Caucasian. Popular culture rejects the notion that men can be librarians. And of course, librarians are always cat ladies endlessly shushing people. This is a humorous take on the stereotypes and is meant to be entertaining. However, overcoming these stereotypes is no laughing matter and I hope to address some of those issues.
