Manuscript Submissions
LEGACY welcomes essays on texts and contexts of U.S. women writers from the seventeenth through the early twentieth centuries. The journal seeks articles on individual authors' works; genre studies; implications of race, ethnicity, class, and sexualities in women's (con)texts; and historical and material culture issues pertinent to women's lives and literary productions.
LEGACY also publishes sections on "Profiles" of lesser-known authors and "Reprints" of notable works in all genres, as well as book reviews. The journal accepts articles for its "From the Archives" section, which focuses on letters and other previously unpublished archival materials.
Articles should be no more than 10,000 words in length, Profiles no more than 2,500. Submissions should be sent electronically as attachments to an e-mail addressed to LEGACY-editor@ucsd.edu. We can accept files in MS Word format, with a file extension of.doc, or in Rich Text format, with a file extension of .rtf. In preparing manuscripts authors should follow the latest MLA Style Manual .
LEGACY observes a "blind reading" policy. The author's name should appear only on the title sheet, and references to the author's previous work in the text or the notes should be in the third person. Permissions and copyright fees, if any, are the responsibility of the author and should be arranged for and paid before submitting the article.
