One of the several roots of the international social entrepreneurship program is microfinance.

Microfinance

• The Microfinance Program at Lehigh was developed under the sponsorship of the Martindale Center.
• My essay, "The Great Divide in Microfinance: Political Economy in Microcosm" has been available on the web in a number of drafts over the years. Two are worth preserving.
  • The 2007 draft is too long, but contains my original thoughts.
  • The published version --pp. 109-144 in Todd A. Watkins and Karen Hicks, eds. Moving Beyond Storytelling: Emerging Research in Microfinance, Contemporary Studies in Economic and Financial Analysis, Volume 92 (Emerald Books, Bingley, UK, 2009) -- is far superior technically, having undergone a very substantial external cut and edit, but minces words in a few places.
