Related Activities and Information Teaching, Writing, and Practicing I believe democracy - real, community-based, participatory democracy -- is the only "system" that can enable the full empowerment of all human beings. Obviously, our contemporary American political, economic, and social structure falls far short of democracy, so in addition to my writing, teaching (and some public speaking), I am currently the chair of the Public Awareness Committee of the John Brennan (Lehigh Valley) chapter of the Labor Party. Given this, and given the tendency of mainstream media to emphasize entertainment values and to keep real information within "safe" political boundries, the only way we as citizens have to know what is going on in the world is to supplement whatever mainstream souces we use with regular reading of the independent media (that's media that aren't owned by large corporations competing for mass markets).
